Good Friday Traffic Volume & Update on QR Code Take-Up Rate

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) cleared close to 2.3 million travellers at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints during the recent Good Friday long weekend from 28 March to 1 April 2024, with 28 March 2024 (Thursday) seeing a record high number of travellers passing through the land checkpoints in a single day.

2.           More than 415,000 car travellers used the QR code for immigration clearance when passing through Singapore’s land checkpoints from 28 March to 1 April 2024. This is about 64% of the total number of car travellers using the checkpoints during the same period.

3.           In view of the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa public holiday, where heavy traffic is expected at both land checkpoints, ICA would like to remind all travellers to factor in additional waiting time and check the traffic situation before embarking on their journey. Car travellers are encouraged to use the QR code for smooth, convenient and fuss-free immigration clearance. When using the QR code, car travellers are reminded to take note of the following for a seamless journey through our checkpoints:

  • Travellers should still bring along their passport when they travel as ICA may still require the passport for verification for selected cases and the traveller would also need it for identity verification at Malaysia’s checkpoints.
  • The same group QR code can be used for multiple trips, if the same travellers with the same passport details are travelling together. If there are any changes in passport details, you can update the QR code conveniently via the MyICA mobile application. Travellers can also create multiple group QR codes for travels with different groups of people and store them in the application under different names (e.g., ‘Family’ or ‘Friends’). QR codes that do not tally with the details and travellers in the vehicle will be rejected and the travellers will have to produce their passports for clearance.
  • Please ensure that your QR code is not cropped during scanning. When placing your phone in front of the scanner, check that your phone has sufficient brightness.
  • First-time foreign visitors and those re-entering Singapore using a different passport from the previous trip will need to present their passport for immigration clearance. They will be able to use QR code clearance on their subsequent trips.
  • All foreign visitors passing through the land checkpoints using the QR code or passport to clear immigration are still required to submit their Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) within three days (including the day of arrival) before arriving in Singapore via the MyICA mobile application or ICA’s website.
4.           We seek travellers’ understanding and cooperation to be patient, observe traffic rules, maintain lane discipline, and cooperate with ICA officers.
