Full Implementation of QR Code Clearance at the Land Checkpoints
Media Fact Sheet
General Points
- Since January 2025, ICA has fully implemented the QR code clearance at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, allowing travellers to clear immigration without the need to present their passports.
- The overall take-up rate has increased, and the feedback received from travellers has been positive.
- At the car zones, those travelling in large groups have been using the group QR codes for immigration clearance. Travellers of up to 10 persons can clear immigration conveniently with a single QR code.
- At the bus halls, travellers using wheelchairs and family groups of up to four persons can also enjoy the convenience of clearing immigration using QR codes at our automated lanes and Special Assistance Lanes.
- With QR code clearance, travellers can expect time savings and improved traveller experience at Singapore’s land checkpoints.
- ICA thus encourages travellers to use the QR code when crossing the land checkpoints for a faster and more convenient immigration clearance.
- ICA will continue to improve clearance efficiency and traveller experience at the land checkpoints.
Statistics
- Comparing the March school holidays in 2024 and 2025, ICA was able to clear 2,000 more travellers per hour (about 10% increase) with the QR code clearance initiative.
- Between 19 March 2024 and 19 March 2025, more than 50.3 million travellers cleared immigration using QR codes at Singapore’s land checkpoints.
- At the car zones, more than 30 million travellers have cleared immigration using the QR code at the land checkpoints. This is about 70% of the total number of car travellers between 19 March 2024 and 19 March 2025.
Advisory
- Travellers should still bring along their passports when travelling overseas.
- Travellers who have renewed their passports are reminded to update their profile on MyICA mobile application before generating a new QR code.
- Those who had previously created their profile using Singpass will need to recreate their profile again through Singpass, to auto-populate their new passport details and overwrite their existing profile.
- Those who had previously created their profile manually or by scanning the passport biodata page will need to edit their profile with their new passport details.
- Travellers are also advised to check the expiry date stated above their QR code in MyICA mobile application. If expiring, you should regenerate a new QR code before arriving at the land checkpoints.
