49-Year-Old Singaporean Man Arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint
In the early hours of 19 March 2023, a Singapore-registered car entered the immigration clearance lane of the departure car zone at Woodlands Checkpoint. The driver, a 49-year-old Singaporean man, informed the ICA officer that he had made a wrong turn and had no intention to depart Singapore. The driver was purportedly not in possession of any valid identity documents or travel documents.
2. ICA’s First Response Team officers performed biometric screening on the driver and discovered that he had allegedly provided a false identity. Upon performing a body search, the driver was found with three vapes and a cable knife. Suspected controlled drugs, comprising about 332g of ‘Ice’ and 28g of heroin, with an estimated street value of $52,000, were also recovered from the vehicle, along with suspected drug paraphernalia, three kitchen knives and one vape refill.
3. The driver was placed under arrest and investigations by CNB are ongoing.
4. Safeguarding Singapore’s borders is ICA’s top priority. ICA will continue to work with our law enforcement agencies to conduct security checks at the checkpoints and detect persons who attempt to flout the law.
