Advisory On Scam Calls

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is aware that members of the public have received calls from some offices of our checkpoints recently. On some occasions, the unknown caller, who may or may not use ICA’s numbers to call, would claim to be an ICA officer and ask the recipients to provide their personal information (e.g. bank account or passport numbers) and/or transfer money, in relation to cases or investigations which they were allegedly involved in.

 2.       The ICA would like to clarify that these calls were not made by our officers. ICA does not call members of the public to transfer money. Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when they receive such calls:

 -         Ignore such calls and the caller’s instructions; and

-         Do not transfer any money to the caller.

 3.         ICA takes a serious view of such scam calls as it undermines public trust in ICA. Members of the public may call the Police hotline at 1800-255 0000 or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness should they have related information, and dial ‘999’ only if urgent Police assistance is required.

 4.       Members of the public can seek scam-related advice by calling the anti-scam helpline at 1800-722-6688 or go to www.scamalert.sg.  They are also encouraged to help spread the word and share this advisory with their family and friends to prevent them from being the next victim of scam.
